Kathy Barr Two very talented songwriter/musicians. Great lyrics. Some silly, some deep, some toe tappers. Favorite track: Blue Cotton Dress.

Even in a windstorm Even in a monsoon You don’t surrender In gruesome thirst It's only reasonable that you collapse Instead you birth a flower The stronger the sun glares The stronger you grow In hardship, you hone your craft As the sun glares stronger In your prickly loneliness It's only reasonable that you collapse Instead you birth a flower The stronger the sun glares The stronger you grow In hardship, you hone your craft As the sun glares stronger Eh-he-ya-di-ya, Eh-he-ya-di-ya, Eh-he-ya-di-ya, Eh-he-ya-di-ya Dear cactus, In a torched desert, you are A teacher more valuable than water From you that blooms a flower in lieu of collapsing I learn

Fluid 04:21
Why is everything all fluid? Like thighs and souls Perhaps this is fat, fat makes things roll Like alcohol lubricates Like oil smoothens Why is everything all fluid? And ought a soul be lubricated? Can two souls meet And smoothen each other out? Slide through life's highs and lows And round each other out? To roll together To swim together To keep on sailing together Why is everything all fluid? Like thighs and souls Perhaps this is fat, fat makes things roll Like alcohol lubricates Like oil smoothens And ought a soul be lubricated? Can two souls meet And smoothen each other out? Slide through life's highs and lows And round each other out? To roll together To swim together To keep on sailing together

When I saw you in that blue cotton dress I said to myself "now I'll never get no rest" 'Cause I'll be up till dawn Writing a song About the girl in the blue cotton dress When you saw me with mean old Joan Marie You gave her one look that scared her right on up a tree Then it was you and I And all the world's time To make the thing most worth leaving behind So we got hitched on the Las Vegas strip You found a hot slot, pulled the arm and struck it rich And we were set for life Without a problem in sight And we could have all the things we desired We bought a brand new automobile The fanciest house up in Beverly Hills With a wardrobe full Of satin and gold From Italian designers we know When the taxman came to collect his dues We spent our last dime on a case of the blues Poured it down the drain With flat pink champagne Left with nothing but the clothes on our backs Hi-ho, hi-ho, it's back to work we go But I ain't coming in on a Saturday no more 'Cause I'll be up till late Out on a date With the girl in the blue cotton dress

Clean and clean and clean and clean Until it gleams, child Until it gleams Mother Nature lives out there And she is not so clean, I fear She will eat her first born son Be he not so quick to run So clean and clean, my only kin And do not let the jungle in

Corner 04:50
A shadow in my eye Reminds me of the times you put me in the corner As much as I wish you hadn't It reminds me that it's part of me I must overcome You were alone And afraid I get it, I get that way too From you, I will learn to be strong You held me in your arms so tight You let my wings fly away from the corner You wished so bad your past Would not repeat itself like you in the corner You were alone And afraid I get it, I get that way too From you, I will learn to strong From you, I will learn unconditional love I will learn, from you To be strong, to love unconditionally I'll try You were alone and afraid And I get it I get that way too So, I'll learn from you How you taught me, how to be strong

No Workout 03:16
Forget about Outside We've got it all Here Tonight I'll be Your light So pull the blinds Tight Let's stay in the way No workout today The TV's in black and white But we live in the gray And dream until three And wake up to pee and see you Fast asleep next to me

(Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na) You say OK as you shovel food into your face (I like food, food is good!) Did you even hear what I said? (Doo-doo, doo, doo-doo, doo) Hey, hey! (Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na) You take from a break from your phone to stare at the space (I like space, space cadet!) How can you be so brain dead? (Doo-doo, doo, doo-doo, doo) Hey, hey! Sometimes I get the feeling that you’d like to throw an ashtray at my head But you blow a kiss instead Joo-geul-leh?! Inside your cranium, uranium is splitting everyday (Is it wrong to blame your K-Rage?) Jook-go-ship-nyah? Your dirty socks and shirts are all over the floor (Dirty socks, dirty shirts!) They ain’t gonna pick themselves up (Doo-doo, doo, doo-doo, doo) Hey, hey! (Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na) You leave your fork in the bowl of rice we share (I like rice, rice is nice!) I don’t want your spit in my grub (Doo-doo, doo, doo-doo, doo) Hey, no! Sometimes I get the feeling that you’d like to throw an ashtray at my head But you blow a kiss instead A-sshi, Joo-geul-leh?! I’m pissed at you, you’re pissed at me We’re pissed at everything we see But I’ll always be on your team Mow!

Intertwined 03:24
Your head is tangled up like mine We extend the checkout every single time You sing oldies in the motel shower (I've looked at love from both sides now) While I come down from my tantrum I'm not my mother (You're not your mother) You're not my father (I'm not your father) You're not your mother (I'm not my mother) You're not your father (I'm not my father) Your legs are tangled up with mine Our bed's a hiding place that we can always find Drift off on pillows full of promises Say you'll be here tomorrow I'm not my father (you're not your father) You're not your mother (I'm not my mother) I'm not your father (You're not my father) Your not my mother (I'm not your mother) Your heart is tangled up with mine A new year looms and I'm feeling strangely fine We dance like everybody's watching us But we're just here for each other We are here for each other

Watch the ones who smile and nod They're no friends of yours Those who never tell you no Won't have your back When the sunshine's gone You'll be on your own Wander while you wonder so Listen to yourself You will know which path to take Even though you'll sometimes go astray You'll find your way home Dance among the wolves How will your tale unfold? Wander while you wonder so Listen to yourself You will know which path to take Even though you'll sometimes go astray You'll find your way home Dance among the wolves How will your tail unfold?

I got too many shoes Coming out of my ears Too many shoes Collected throughout the years I got shoes for walking Shoes for hiking Shoes for running and Shoes for biking Shoes for basketball Too many shoes Coming out of my ears Too many shoes Collected throughout the years I got shoes for walking Shoes for hiking Shoes for running and Shoes for biking Shoes for working outside Shoes for walking indoors Sometimes they call those slippers I got sandals and flippers So many things to put on my feet While other people can't eat At least my feet are comfy and clean And I know you know what I mean I got shoes on my hands I got mittens on my feet I got Adidas for my dogs Nike's for my cats Teva's for my goldfish Whatcha think about that? Yeah, but I was really hoping to make love to you But you know, I ain't never seen a love-making shoe, so uh...

about

We are spheres of influence, orbiting around one another, crashing into one another, again and again and again, believing this intense magnetism to be love, when really it is simply gravity... a law of nature.

Our bond is physical. Just as the waves ceaselessly crash against the shore, so too do we crash ceaselessly against one another, searching for meaning.

We call it love because calling it nature would be to acknowledge our own inevitability... to admit that our will is indeed shackled.

The sea cannot lie still.
Man cannot deny love.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us thus far in our journey. Our parents for nurturing us, our siblings for bettering us, our friends for letting us be ourselves. This music is for all of you. We put a lot of love into this project and hope you can feel that when you listen to it.

Special thanks to my father, Larry Barr, for letting us live in his cabin while we recorded this album. Love you dad.

Big thanks to Zach Briefer for laying down the drums like a true professional and to Andrew Levin for his tireless mixing efforts.

Finally, thanks to our dogs, Mambo and Tofu for putting up with many late nights of weird noises, whimsical tangents, and off-key singing.

about

The Quiet Smiles Tucson, Arizona

Two lone travelers crossed paths in the dense jungles of Borneo, each carrying a backpack with bandannas and band-aids, toothbrushes and tattered bus passes alongside tales of hazy Laotian dope utopias and ancient shrines reclaimed by virile mangrove roots.

With an undying wanderlust, The Quiet Smiles make organic music that is soft yet rough, mysterious yet bright, curious yet unwavering.
